In January 2017, EUHT technology was applied in the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity High-Speed Rail. The third-party test results show that technical performance indicators of EUHT system from Nufront has reached the world’s leading position. In the case of high-speed movement of 300km/h, the handover success rate is 100%, the average communication delay is 5ms, and the average transmission bandwidth is up to 150Mbps. These technical indicators exceed 4G technology by more than 10 times, and meet the performance requirements of the next generation 5G technology.

At present, China's railway mobile communication mainly adopts GSM-R system. GSM-R is a kind of narrow-band communication system, and it cannot satisfy the demand of broadband mobile communication. At the same time, because of the rapid development of mobile communication technology, the life cycle of GSM-R system becomes shorter. It is estimated that support for GSM-R by equipment manufacturers will end at most 2025.

In recent years, the public mobile communication network has developed from 2G (GSM) to broadband mobile communication system (3G, B3G and 4G). Among these communication system, LTE develops very rapidly. This kind of technology also promotes the development of railway mobile communication. However, in the higher frequency band (above 5GHz), LTE only can support a mobile speed of less than 150km/h. In addition, the maximum bandwidth supported by LTE is only 20MHz in a single base station at present, which has become a constraint for the application of this technology in China's railways.
